Del Rio, Texas (1/22,23/20)

We left Hot Springs and traveled into Texas.  We met some new friends in Del Rio (Trish and Gay) and stayed on their property.  They are members of Boondockers Welcome.  They gave us info on some places to see after we leave here.  We enjoyed some pizza with them and talked about travels.  Very nice couple.  We mostly rested while here and picked up some supplies.  Will be leaving tomorrow for Big Bend NP.

Hot Springs National Park

We have arrived at Hot Springs on Jan 22 and stayed at Gulpha Gorge Campground.  It is a nice campground and we got a spot by the creek.  Nice area to walk the dog.  We went to Hot Springs NP on the 23rd.  It is an interesting place as the NP is in town.  They have several buildings called bath row.  These were bath houses that were owned by various entrepreneurs starting in the mid 1800's after several hot springs were noticed in the town.  People came from all over to use the baths in the hopes it would heal what ailed them.  There is no smell to the water. We did drink some of the water and it tasted like water.  It was actually quite good.  We went to the museum which showed how a bath house looked years ago.  Some of the items I had no idea what they were used for.  There of course was a women's section and a men's section.  Later we went to a brewery that is the only brewery on NP land.  They use the water to brew their beer and root beer.  We were able to take our dog in the brewery as they were dog friendly.  On our last day we did a couples aromatherapy soak, it was very nice.  And my skin was very soft afterwards.  I highly recommend checking this NP out.

Finally!

We  finally left our home on the 13th and are heading south and then west.  It will be an adventure.  We are pulling a 26 foot travel trailer.  Our first couple of nights we just stayed in rest areas for the night so we did not unhook from the truck and could just get going in the am. Our first destination is going to be Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas.  It is still cold and still wearing a coat but we do not have snow.

The End of a Decade

We will be starting a new decade in a few days and that got me to thinking about what I have done in this last decade.

2010-We do an annual trip to Sleeping Bear Dunes in the summer and it does not disappoint.

2011-Our annual trip to Sleeping Bear Dunes with family is always a fun time

2012-Took a train trip to New Orleans. We were in a sleeper car and it was fun.  New Orleans was quite interesting. I retired from my current job at the end of November.  We also did a remodel of a kitchen and bathroom that took forever but oh how I love it.  Again our annual trip to Sleeping Bear Dunes

2013-I drove to Arizona for a month in January to visit family.  It was a good trip and the weather held out.  Our daughter also left to go live in Denver and that was very hard. We took a trip to Hawaii (Oahu and Kauai) and we had a great time.  Want to go back.  Also, did our annual trip to Sleeping Bear.  Did a lot of work in the yard. We had a couple of fawns who hung out in our back yard most of the summer. It was fun watching them.

2014-We took a trip to Arizona to see family. Took my parents on a train trip through Verde Canyon, was a very pretty ride.  Also went to Colorado later to visit our daughter.  Went to Rocky Mountain National Park

2015-We took a trip to Arizona to see family.  My daughter and I took a trip to Assateague Island and had a great time.  It was fun being so close to the wild horses.  We learned how to catch blue crabs.  This trip also included a trip to Washington D.C. Later my husband and I took a trip to the Northeast (New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine) and also to New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island.  It was a great trip and want to go back to Nova Scotia.

2016-Took a mother daughter trip to Finger Lakes in New York.  Very pretty and much to do. Took a ride on the Badger from Luddington, MI to Door county WI.  It was a fun 4 hour ride on Lake MI. We rode around Door County and then went to the upper peninsula of MI.  Went to Porcupine State Park, Copper Harbor, Pictured Rocks.  Took the boat tour of Pictured Rocks which is very much worth it.  Very pretty.

2017- Went to Arizona for my parents 60th anniversary and later went back for Christmas.  In August we went to Isle Royal National Park which is so far my favorite National Park.  I loved it there.  It is so quiet and peaceful.  Met some nice people and new friends. Also, saw a moose.

2018-Went on our annual Sleeping Bear trip and had fun. It is a beautiful area.  We went to Colorado at the end of the year to visit our daughter.

2019-I went to Florida to visit a friend which got me away from the cold and gloom for a few days.  It was very warm there.  In June we spent the month in Utah visiting the 5 National Parks.  They are each beautiful in their own way.  My sister came and met us by Moab as did my daughter and a friend of hers.  My sister and her husband joined us as we went to southwest Colorado for a few days.

In looking back I see that the past decade had a lot of travel and adventures.  We are planning on more in the next decade.  We will start out the year traveling to a warmer place for a couple of months and then a big trip this summer to Canada and Alaska.
